SFMTA Citation Parking Ticket Payment Ways

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, or SFMTA, is responsible for all the ground traffic in San Francisco. They oversee the Municipal Railway as well as taxis, parking and traffic.

SFMTA Parking Ticket Payment Online

If you’re unfortunate enough to get a parking ticket, at least it’s simple to make your SFMTA parking ticket payment online.

To get started, visit their website.

In the upper right-hand corner, click on “Quick Links” and then click “Pay a Parking Ticket.”



Click the blue box near the middle of the page that says “Pay Online.” This brings you to the payment page.

You can look up your parking ticket by license plate number or by citation number.

Once you’re ready, click the green link at the bottom of the page saying “Begin.”

Enter your citation number or license plate number. Select your license plate state if you entered your license plate number.



Enter the text you see if the box provided, and then click the green box reading “Search for citations.”

Follow the prompts to make your payment.

Other Ways to Make Your SFMTA Parking Ticket Payment

You have other options if you’d rather not make your SFMTA parking ticket payment online.

  • Pay by phone: Call 1-415-701-30-99 or 1-800-531-73-57 to make your payment by phone.
  • Pay by mail: Write the citation number on your check or money order and make it payable to SFMTA. Mail it to:

  • Pay in person: You can pay using cash, checks, credit cards, and debit cards by visiting the SFMTA Customer Service Center at:

If you need assistance with your SFMTA parking ticket, you can reach them by phone by calling 311 if you’re in San Francisco or by calling 1-415-701-23-11 if you’re outside the city. You can also visit them in person for help by going to 11 South Van Ness Avenue.


How do I protest a ticket?

If you’re going to protest your ticket, you need to do so within 21 days of receiving the ticket. Don’t make a payment if you’re planning to protest. You can protest www.sfmta.com/paycitation online or by sending it to SFMTA Customer Service Center, ATTN: Citation Review, 11 South Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA, 94103.

What should I do if got towed?

If you think your vehicle was towed, call the City and County of San Francisco Impound at 415-856-82-00 to find your vehicle. You must pick up your vehicle in person and pay any fines to get your vehicle returned to you.

What if I can’t afford the fine to get my car out of impound?

There is a discount if this is the first time your car has been towed. If you participate in a low-income program, you can also get your fine reduced. You can contest a tow by calling 1-415-701-54-00 and scheduling a hearing.

How do I get the boot off of my vehicle?

If you have five or more unpaid parking tickets, your vehicle may get a boot, which makes it immobile. You have 72 hours to make a payment and get the boot removed. You can pay online the same way you pay a parking ticket or pay in person at 11 South Van Ness Avenue Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can pay at the AutoReturn Customer Service Center at 450 Seventh Street from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

How do I contest a boot?

If your vehicle was booted in error, visit the SFMTA Customer Service Center at 11 South Van Ness Avenue Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and request an immediate hearing.
