You can make payments through an online SMECO account or make a one-time payment without an account.

To get started, visit their website: www.smeco.coop.

Register for SMECO Bill Pay Online

If you’d like to pay with an account, you will need to register.

From their website, click “Sign In” in the upper right-hand corner.



This brings you to their account management page.

To register, click “New User.”

On the next page, enter a username, your first and last name, and your email address. Click “Register” and follow any further prompts to finish your registration.

To pay your SMECO bill by logging in, return to the account management page.

Enter the username and password you created when you registered.

Other Ways to Pay Your SMECO Bill

If you’d rather not pay your SMECO bill online, you have several options available.

  • Pay by phone: You can pay your SMECO bill by phone by calling 1-866-528-77-57.
  • Pay in person at a SMECO office: You can pay in person from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the two SMECO customer service centers. The first is in Hughesville at 15065 Burnt Store Road, and the second is in Leonardtown at 23365 Hollywood Road.
  • Pay in person at Walmart: You can pay at any Walmart for a small fee. Take your bill to the Walmart MoneyCenter or their customer service desk. You can pay with cash or with a debit card.
  • Pay by mail: Send a check or money order to:

  • Pay by app: Download the SMECO 24/7 app on App Store or Google Play to make a payment through the application.
  • Pay by text: Text SMECO to pay your bill. To register your number, text REG to 76326.

What if I’m having trouble paying my bill?

If you are having trouble paying your bill, you can make a payment arrangement with SMECO. To make a payment arrangement, log into your account, visit a location, or call 1-888-440-3311.

What is the SMECO budget plan?

With the SMECO budget plan, you have predictable payments. Your account is reviewed every six months, and you will be credited any overages or advised if you owe any money. To qualify, your account must be up-to-date.

What if I don’t agree with my bill?

You can dispute your bill by calling or writing SMECO. They will investigate the bill. If you don’t agree with their decision, you can appeal it to the Maryland Public Service Commission.

Do I need to pay a deposit to start service?

You will need to establish credit or pay a deposit to start service. You can pay your deposit in installments, and you may be able to get the deposit refunded after 16 months.
